Background & Philosophy
Dr Musa trained at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2000. After completing his ophthalmology training, he pursued advanced surgical fellowships in two sub-specialties , glaucoma at Nottingham (2011), an internationally recognised centre of excellence for glaucoma research, and cornea at Rotterdam (2012), an internationally recognised centre for pioneering corneal endothelial transplant techniques.
In February 2013, Dr Musa and his team at Calderdale Hospital became the first group to perform DMEK surgery in the North of England. DMEK is the latest iteration of corneal endothelial transplantation and offers superior outcomes to the previous standard (DSEK), involving transplanting a 10-micron layer of endothelial cells , ten times thinner than a DSEK graft.
He values taking the time to ensure patients are fully informed of their condition, all available treatment options, and their relative risks and benefits. He considers this vital in making the correct choice for something as precious as sight.
