What LASIK Can Correct

Myopia (Short-Sightedness)

Up to −10.00 dioptres

Hyperopia (Long-Sightedness)

Up to +6.00 dioptres

Astigmatism

Up to 6.00 dioptres

Your suitability will be confirmed during a comprehensive pre-operative assessment with your consultant. Not all prescriptions are suitable for LASIK , alternatives such as LASEK, PRK, or ICL may be recommended.

Step by Step

How LASIK Works

01

Comprehensive Assessment

Your consultant performs a detailed evaluation , corneal thickness mapping, topography, pupil measurements, and a thorough refraction , to confirm you're a suitable candidate and plan your personalised treatment.

02

Flap Creation

A femtosecond laser creates an ultra-thin, precise flap in the outer layer of the cornea. This takes just seconds and is completely painless under anaesthetic drops.

03

Corneal Reshaping

The flap is gently folded back, and an excimer laser reshapes the underlying corneal tissue with microscopic precision , correcting your specific refractive error.

04

Flap Repositioning

The corneal flap is carefully repositioned. It adheres naturally within minutes , no stitches required. The flap acts as a natural bandage, promoting rapid healing.

05

Recovery

You rest briefly, then go home the same day. Most patients notice dramatically improved vision within hours. Full stabilisation occurs over the following weeks.

Am I Suitable?

LASIK Candidacy

Ideal Candidates

  • Aged 21 or older with a stable prescription for at least 1–2 years
  • Myopia up to −10.00, hyperopia up to +6.00, or astigmatism up to 6.00
  • Sufficient corneal thickness (confirmed during assessment)
  • Good general eye health , no keratoconus, glaucoma, or significant cataracts
  • Good overall health , no uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune conditions

May Not Be Suitable

  • Under 21 or with an unstable/changing prescription
  • Corneas that are too thin for safe flap creation
  • Existing eye conditions such as keratoconus or severe dry eye
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding (hormones can affect prescription)
  • Very high prescriptions beyond the treatable range

The only way to know for certain is a comprehensive assessment. Even if LASIK isn't right for you, alternatives such as LASEK, ICL, or lens replacement may achieve the same goal.

Common Questions

LASIK FAQs

Is LASIK painful?

No. Anaesthetic drops completely numb your eyes before the procedure. Most patients feel only gentle pressure during flap creation. After surgery, you may experience mild grittiness or watering for a few hours, but significant pain is rare.

How quickly will I see results?

Most patients notice dramatically improved vision within hours of surgery. Vision continues to sharpen over the following days and weeks, with full stabilisation typically achieved within 1–3 months.

How long does the procedure take?

The laser treatment itself takes approximately 10–15 minutes per eye. Including preparation and immediate recovery, you should expect to be at the clinic for around 1–2 hours in total.

When can I return to work?

Most patients return to office-based work within 1–2 days. Avoid dusty or smoky environments for at least a week. Your consultant will advise based on your specific job requirements.

When can I drive after LASIK?

Most patients can drive within 24–48 hours, once their consultant confirms their vision meets DVLA standards. You must not drive on the day of surgery and should arrange transport home.
